The Rivalry Continues
posted Monday September 28th, 2009 by Commissioner Marce
Four years. That's how long its been since the last time New School and Old School faced off at Pritchard Field. This once great rivalry had been shelved in recent years in favor of a draft; but 2009 gives rebirth to this clash of the titans. On Saturday September 26th the league announced that in celebration of its tenth year the TFL would be canceling its annual entry draft and reinstating this honored format.

The New School-Old School alignment has given us two of the greatest games in league history: the 10-9 slugfest in Turkey Bowl IV, and the 4-3 defensive battle two years later in Turkey Bowl VI. Currently, Old School owns a 2-1 series advantage; claiming victory in Turkey Bowl VI to go along with an 8-3 triumph in Turkey Bowl V. The league commissioners could think of no better way to commemorate 10 years of Turkey Bowl football then by pitting these two adversaries against each other once more.

The fourth installment of New School-Old School features many familiar faces, but it also includes a bit of a twist. Because this format is simply a sliding calendar, pitting the eight youngest against the eight oldest, there is one major change from years past. Two time Old School lineman, and one time MVP, Keith Cottom was traded to team New School. How will Cottom respond to going to battle WITH his former foes instead of AGAINST them? There's only one way to know for sure: be there on Thanksgiving morning for the tenth year of the Ridley Turkey Bowl.
