| Posted By: Matt 10/27/09 at 03:19 PM | WTF is wrong with everybody? I just casually glanced at the countdown clock and noticed 29 days til Turkey Bowl. 29 days. Four weeks from Thursday. I don't know if the extra long baseball season is keeping everyone distracted or what; but it definitely does not feel like Turkey Bowl season right now. Especially since this is going to be a year for the ages. 10 years. That's what we are celebrating this year. 10 years of Turkey Bowl football, and the message boards are a ghost town less than one month before the game.
We brought back the most storied rivalry in league history to generate extra buzz for this year and everyone is mysteriously quiet. New School-Old School. It's back. Are you people not paying attention? Do you remember New School-Old School? The legendary first time around in 2003? That back and forth slug fest? 10-9? "The Strippage At Pritchard"? Does any of this ring a bell? Old School getting revenge in TBV in that monsoon? Rayer missing the game because he was passed out on the faceoff X of Cabrini's lacrosse field? An 8-3 slaughter by Old School to even the series? Is this setting off any light bulbs for you people? The epic defensive struggle in Turkey Bowl VI? The return of Detweiler from the Marines and Middleton from injury? That goal line stand for the ages to preserve a 4-3 win for Old School? Tony's sack on 4th down to cement the win and take a 2-1 series lead? All this shit happened. All of it happened in an improbable 3 year span that contained 2 of the most ridiculous games of all time. And guess what mother fuckers? That shit is back this year. For the first time since 05. New School-Old School. Say it again to yourself. New School-Old School. It's real. The last time New School was at full strength (Rayer, Middleton & Mark on the same field) we played arguably the best game ever to be played. Now add to that team the Tuna and Keith Cottom. My Old School team has been together for it all; the core group of myself, Dougherty, Bill, Crooksie and Richie D staying together for all 3 contests. If you listen to Mark we have no shot in this game. We shouldn't bother showing up. We'll be lucky to score more than 5 points. And while I'll admit we may not match up well on paper and if there was a spread we'd probably be the consensus underdog; I am in no way ready to chalk this game up to a definite New School win like Mark is. You forget that the last time this core group of players met on the field (Trill, Mark, Paul, Rayer, Hart - Matt, Crooks, Bill, Doc, Rich) we waged war. Keep banking on an easy win Mark, it will make Thanksgiving morning that much sweeter. |

However, there are some flaws in your logic: In one of those games (Turkey Bowl VI) you lost, so it doesn't matter how many points you gave up you still ended up a loser. So that's not really pertinent. In another one of those games (Turkey Bowl VIII) I was on your team (I had a strong, 3 INT defensive effort that day), which I am not this year, so that doesn't really apply either. So that leaves just last year... but I guess your "trend" still is correct. In the one game that is actually applicable your defense only allowed 4 points. Good for you Tuna! |

Which I guess would just constitute the sound of keys being pressed; so I guess he's kind of right. I find the sounds of typing to be very soothing. |
