Weird how an untested rookie is ahead of rich and me on the big board but crooks is above the rookie and we both have more career tds than him. I think mel is losing it a little. Of course he did have Brady Quinn projected as a top 10 pick. |

9/25/08 at 05:21 AM | I've always wondered why some people draw coverage from people like Doubet, and why others draw coverage from Derek and Middleton? Or why Kevin Kolb had more passing yards in college then Jemarcus Russell but Russell went before Kolb in the draft? Well, I guess those are just some questions that will never be answered, but the Doubet thing does explain why someone hasn't scored a receiving touchdown since Turkey Bowl V in 2004, which was the last year doubet played with us. Or that the big board was only a third created by Mel (or who I'm assuming was meant to be me in disguise) and 66% of the voting that accounted for where people landed on the big board had to do with the votes of two other people, but I guess we don't want to write anything on the board that might step on poor little Matty's are Marky's toes do we? |

I think that just for kicks, if we end up on different sides of the ball, no matter what my teammates or your teammates think we should be matched up for the whole game and give it a run. |

It doesnt match up, but you know for a fact I'll be there every play. And yea I did think it was funny that you are ranked above rich, and if your only 2/3rds of the rankings then why are you the only one that got your panties in a bunch by my (clearly to just be an asshole and get things going) remark about a mock "mock draft" with a guys name attached who does this for the NFL draft. |

9/25/08 at 09:09 AM | First of all i'm only 1/3. Second of all, Derek beat me fair and square last year and I never once complained because he earned his spot in front of me on the board. Thirdly, I don't feel the need to bring rich in this because he isn't saying anything, and when we did the board, we looked at consistency, rich scored four of his touchdowns in one game, but if you thought it was funny that i was infront of rich, why bring yourself in it. you just could have said rich couldn't you of? but no, you brought yourself in and took a shot at me in your post, so of course since I had a shot taken at me, i responded. And in addition, why not take a shot at mark? you have more career touchdowns then mark. shouldnt you be infront of him in your opinion? |

So when Derek was talking shit on the field, because he was outplaying me, he had a right to. So don't take the spotlight off of what's at hand and put it on the past. If you recall the big shit talking was rayer and derek, i wasn't even involved. I wasn't even thinking about talking shit to anyone until this morning. Well, that's wrong, I did make fun of Trill's day at work, which would give Trill more than a right to come right back at me. |

20 replies in less than two hours? This is amazing, the draft is still three days away. I almost feel bad posting in here and jumping in on your party. I could rename this "The Bill & Crooks Rivalry Thread" if you guys want.
To reply to the original post questioning the rankings...
The big board was a compilation of three lists of player rankings made by Mark, Mr. Crooks and myself. A player's average position of the three was used for their ranking. The logic behind the receivers ranked 10 thru 15 is as follows:
Ian was ranked that high because he will be the tallest receiver on the field by two inches, and he is the only one on either roster who is still in game shape from playing a competitive sport. Crooks got his ranking because on top of being a consistent scoring threat he ranks second, behind only Derek, in endurance and in-shapeness (is that a word?). And Derek demonstrated last year what being in tremendous shape can do for an individual's performance.
As far as the touchdown comparison goes I don't think there is a wide enough gap between each player's TDs to make a big deal out of it. And if you look at each person's scoring logs; more than half of Rich's TDs came in one game, and Bill hasn't scored a TD since 2004. On top of that the TDs scored are only 7, 6, 5 so its not like one player has a comfortable margin.
Also, the rankings were based on more than touchdown output. Defensive and special teams performance was taken into consideration, and Crooks has a distinct advantage as a returner when compared to the other receivers in question.
I feel confident that our scouting service got the rankings right. And even if they didn't, they are merely a guide for the upcoming draft; the captains will ultimately decide and everything will be played out on the field (the beauty of sport). At the very least, hopefully we will be treated to an interesting personal match up to go along with the annual team vs. team battle. |
